About The Founder
Montgomery 32 is family. It’s peace. It’s 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦.
When I decided I was going to make my own skincare products the first thing that plagued my brain was, “What is the name going to be?” I played around with different variations of my name to represent “tailored” and I came up with “Taylor’d Skincare”. I stuck with that for a minute but then I started to realize I wasn’t the only one to come up with that name or something way too similar, go figure. I drove myself crazy trying to come up with something else so I decided to let it go because I knew eventually a name would come to me organically.
Months later I tried again. This time I took a new approach and decided to think of what started my interest in skincare in the first place. The farthest memory I have was when I was about 5 or 6 years old watching some cartoon (I believe it was Wild Thornberrys) and the character was relaxing with a face mask on and I just remember thinking she was so decent lol. I remember taking a bunch of lotion and putting it on my face (imitating the face mask) and I thought I was so cool. That was my self care for the day I guess lol. I tried other things after that like tooth paste and hair grease.
From that memory, I started thinking about where I lived at that time. I lived in a two bedroom apartment with my mom and great grandmother in North Philly on 𝟹𝟸𝘯𝘥 & 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘨𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘈𝘷𝘦. I was born and raised in that apartment; on that block. I still love being around there and I still speak to the friends I grew up with around there. That block will always be home to me. I have stories for daysabout all the funny, crazy, and rough experiences that shaped me into the woman I am today. Since moving from 32nd Street I’ve lived in 2 other areas in the city, but no matter what I will 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 claim 32nd Street because I’ve never felt a sense of home and community anywhere else.
Montgomery 32 is home for me. I’m going to make Montgomery 32 home for you. Home for Black women (and men). And home for the entire beauty industry.
